A fresh new year.

Welcome to the new year everyone! Oh eleven, what will you bring?

I feel like this is going to be an excellent and prosperous year. For me there will be a lot happening – including expanding the business, further study, a bit of travel, and a wedding (my own!).

Because it’s going to be big – and because the festive season was particularly, decadently, enjoyable – I feel that a clean start will set the tone for a good year. It’s time to dust out the cobwebs, clean up my act, give my liver and digestive system a break…

Yes. That’s right. It’s detox o’clock.

My theme? Lemons and leaves. Of course.

Lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C. When squeezed into water or fresh juice, or drizzled over a leafy salad, the citric acid in lemons stimulates digestive function, which will help us get the most out of a meal.

The juice of half a lemon, squeezed into a glass of water, is a lovely way to give each day a fresh start.

Leafy greens such as spinach, lettuce, rocket, kale, dandelion leaves, and endives (to name but a few) are incredible super foods. Super tasty! Super nutritious! High in fibre, rich in antioxidants and an excellent source of calcium and magnesium – these are a must have for all summer salads.

I’d be lying if I said that’s all there was to it. However, for most people, small changes like this would be a pretty good start when setting the tone for a healthy and prosperous year to come.

If you want a proper health overhaul, or – as one of my patients described it – a good kick up the rear, there’s no time like the present.
